Antigua at a Glance

Antigua, a city of many walls and huge entrance doors, has preserved it's charm
and
antiquity.

Caballeros
still ride into town on horseback.

Much of the city has never been reb
uilt, after a number of devastating earthquakes.

Most often, quiet settings within the old city are the most pleasing.

A city of doorways leads to the homes, markets and antiquities of the beautiful old city. Often only a small 6'x10' shop exists, like this flower shop near the central square.

Our volcano view from bed each morning.

Volcano south of the City as viewed from a restored Spanish com
pound.
The walls of Antigua's doors, open up to a different world. Inside are th
e homes, markets and antiquities of this amazing city.

The indiginous population cooks with wood fires. A laborer chops wood from logs the size of oil drums all day long, down to the desired size. That's his job...ALL DAY LONG, EVERY DAY.

What's called "chicken buses" because the indigenous Mayans often carry them to market aboard ..... are most often rebuilds of 2nd hand US School Buses. Never saw one like this when I was a kid, but the Latins love color!

Most food products are locally produced. Beef and other domestic animals are commonly seen hearded into trucks and bound for cities and town close by. Slaughtered where needed and sold like this as certain slabs or cuts not usually recognizable, on hooks or on shelves, often with happy flies feasting. Cooked up it's always tasty but NEVER tender.

Mermaids, carved on the side of the Fountain of the Catherdral of San Francisco.
Guess the church has changed it's mind on a few things in the last few hundred years.....
