CSY, Helm Seat,-Pilothouse 44 and 37, 33 versions
The helm seat on the Pilothouse version of the 44 is similar to that of the seat on the 37 and 33. It is a 'bucket' that you sit 'in'. I found it somewhat difficult to see comfortably over the pilothouse and when the boat was heeled, I was sitting even lower, as my butt would be on the lower side of the bucket. Between other projects back in 2001, I figured out a fix. Cutting off the top and flipping it, would give me a 'dome' to sit on and also move me to the high side of the seat when the boat was heeled. Wallah!
It was fairly strait forward after that. A compartment was created under the seat itself to hold this or that item that always needs a place but never really has one. Under the main section of the seat is still room for the 2 propane bottles.
There was a bit of fairing to do after all glass work for structural integrity, but after paint, it looks great. Awlgrip non skid was added to the top for a non slip surface.
