RV, Recreational Vehicle, option.

There are times when a mariner will look to land for safety and comfort. The degree of this is a personal decision.

Heritage everywhere.

I decided to hold onto the 'travel option within North America'. Having been in 43 of our states does not mean I have "grasped all that is to be seen or enjoyed". Certainly that is never possible in a lifetime, but, what we have here as U.S. citizens is a rarity that deserves our attention. Dorothy mentioned a few months ago that she would like to see the Grand Canyon, so that too got me thinking. We bought this RV to be our mobile "land" home.

View out our RV door in late afternoon on the Shenandoah Ridge, Va.

Also we still have family in the US but would like and feel it's better to have our own space while visiting. Research and education on the net has been the trick. How much better life has been since the internet!!!

Restfull seat along a Nature Walk down to a series of waterfalls.

My thoughts have evolved and settled. Knowledge is certainly better then dreams or impulses. Truly, it's great to have 'time and information' to make a decision!

While in Guatemala, I bought an RV thru Ebay.

Might have been a dumb decision, but I researched it as much as possible and dove off the board. Luckily there was some water in the pool. The seller was a deceptive and fooled me... big time. The rig was up in Philly, and we flew there from Florida so I chose to go with the flow and accept what I saw, then repair what I could in some order later, rather than....

Next day, all tires were replaced. The ones on it were dry rotted from age/the seller had written "75% tread still on tires!". The dates on the tires were 2000 and 2002. Keep in mind, UV normally limits tires to 5 years or so. Cracks over 1.5 inches were easily visible in minutes of my inspection on the sidewalls. OK. New tires. It's now been in the shop for 2 weeks dealing with other....mechanical issues. Nothing huge, just stuff that should have been kept up!

Anyway, we flew up to Philly, picked up the RV, drove to a friends home in Waldwick NJ. The friend helped me get tires and Amsoil fluids. Onward thru NJ, west thru PA then down thru western Maryland and further down doing a loop thru W.V. mountains and towns, we then.... drove east thru Virginia and down thru its Shanandoah Ridge Parkway. Continuing on this thru the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC's western beauty.

Slow speed driving gave us respectable milage for a poorly maintained RV with a BIG engine. I was hoping for 10 and got 9.3 over a 1000 miles of mountainous/and small town/stop light 35-45 driving staying at max. 52 and an easy pedal.

The trip was 'wonderful', restful, allowing us to reflect on the beauty still within even our country's most populated areas. A joyous surprise.
