Camrykaland

Camrykaland is the dream of a couple, Carl and Mary.  They've been cruising for a couple of decades and have decided to plant a few roots. No kidding.  What you see behind them has been grown in the past 2 years!

They bought a few acres of land in Dolphin Bay about 10 miles south west and 20 minutes by boat, from the town of Bocas del Toro.  The land although waterfront, was used for cattle grazing and much of the lands vegitation had been cleared.  Carl and Mary decided to build a home there and replant the hillside to hopefully rebuild a canopy for the howler monkeys and sloths to be able to move through from one property to the next.

Destruction of timber lands for agriculture or cattle ranching, is a major problem for the natural animal inhabitants and so reforestation by gringos and government is a goal now.

While anchored in the bay off their property, we were visited several times by local indians.  This one little boy came out twice, usually asking for a quarter or a pen or paper or water.....

He left contented, but sadly, he and others here live a very primitive life that our few interactions can not change quickly enough to solve todays problems.

He was a cute kid and I will think of him.
