MEMORY ROSE

Sailing Vessel Memory Rose is a 'highly modified' version of the rare CSY 44' Pilothouse Ketch. My vision of the perfect world cruiser for us, guided me to extensive modifications of the original vessel, hull #2/1978. Whether projects or travels, our posts will include plenty of photographs.

Captains visit Commandant, exchange Words of Thanks, then Firm Handshakes.

Recently, due to thefts of outboards on the Rio Dulce here in Guatemala, some of the mariners have been working hard to get security increased, or at least crime decreased. Overall, things have worked well and last week, the Navy patrol on the river, caught 2 thieves.
I wrote a letter of thanks to the Navy as a commendation for their efforts and in particular, the guys doing the patrolling.
With over 70 signatures from local boaters, we presented the letter to the Commander of the Navy of Guatemala, Atlantic side. Actually, the Deputy Commander, as the top guy was off for a week.
It was a good occasion for both Navy and us civilians and I think helped both share a bond of friendship and understanding. Anyway, it was certainly a positive occasion.

New Rudder

New Rudder
Modern design plus 15% larger, skeg lengthened 7"

Permanent Storm Windows

Permanent Storm Windows
Aluminum trim rings secure 1/2" dark acrylic panels

New Chain Plate design

New Chain Plate design
External one piece chain plates. Old teak on cap rail removed as well as original rub rail. Hull to deck joint glassed over, then new teak/bronze rail installed high on outer edge of hull.

Bowsprit addition

Bowsprit addition
The Pilothouse version is a true ketch, with mast 4' forward of cutter rig and has no staysail, but added bowsprit adds 125 square feet to the headsail plus allows for a staysail.

Dolphin Striker

Dolphin Striker
At the end of the Dolphin Striker (or martingale) is traditionally a spear point, I chose to make it something that would be less harmful to a playful dolphin, another Dolphin.

New Refrigeration

New Refrigeration
Interior volume reduced from 18 to 12 c.f. and insulated with special material to give the equivalent of 15-20" of foam.
